History of Landmark Baptist Church
Landmark Baptist Church began in December of 1998 when the Shady Acres Baptist Church of
Houston, Texas commissioned a church plant in the northwest suburb of Hockley. Dr. Ed
DeVries was called as pastor of the
Hockley church and the name Landmark Baptist Church was chosen.
The First Service of the Landmark Baptist Church was held on Easter Sunday 1999 at the
Robert's Road Elementary School in Hockley. The church met in the school auditorium for
six months.
Since there was no suitable building available for lease/rent in Hockley, the church
relocated to nearby Waller (just 7 miles NW of Robert's Road Elementary) in September of
1999. The church met in a storefront located at 2416 Main Street in Waller until October
2000.
In November of 2000 the church moved into the former Grace Methodist Church building
located at 1418 Key Street in Waller. The all brick structure, built in 1960, has provided
the church with a 150+ seat auditorium, 2 nurseries, several Sunday school rooms, office
space, a fellowship hall, and a fenced-in play ground.
On June 3rd the Church called Bro. Ken Barber as her Pastor. Dr. DeVries was given the
title of Pastor Emeritus and serves as the church's Staff Evangelist.
Landmark is a friendly young church with a heart for people. We invite you and your family
to come and GROW with us!
